ROOTS
It all started here on this beautiful farm in West Sussex.
Joe began as an apprentice in the workshop here, learning traditional furniture craft.
A decade later, having trained at Chelsea Art College and honed his furniture making skills in a London company, he returned to this workshop to begin his own brand as a British Designer Maker.
Now, another decade on, Joe Mellows Furniture Makers is a team of accomplished and versatile craftsmen, creating beautiful and enduring work.

Inspired by new challenges, Joe has led his team through a variety of complex commissions, each bringing opportunities to enhance their expertise.
This is evident in everything we do whether it is a huge showpiece staircase or a simple cabinet.

Ambitious from the beginning, Joe has always tried to say 'yes' to a client's need.
This endeavour has led to Research and Development in all sorts of areas from electronics to engineering.
We find ourselves in an ever-changing and developing field where some of our clients are looking to create something completely new, often pushing materials to the edge of what is possible for their properties. Our variety of work helps us to crossover skills from different areas, finding that with some discerning adaptation, almost anything is possible.
We work with a specially selected group of sawyers, veneer merchants, metal workers, upholsterers and finishers who often work in new ways to contribute to one of our projects.
